An Exclusive Interview with Rabia Basri for All Round View

Rabia Basri: Ups and downs are part of life, and as for professional life too. Overall , I have good cooperative colleagues around. I do my work with full dedication and honesty without considering that I m a woman. I do face problems but I manage somehow.

Zill-e-Huma: What was the reason behind selection of this profession?

Rabia Basri: I have interest in my work and I know that it will help me to learn many positive things and I can serve my motherland in a better way.

Zill-e-Huma : What about the place in which you are living now?

Rabia Basri: It is heart of Pakistan, Islamabad. Lovely city with lovely people around and lots of greenry.

Zill-e-Huma : Which part of the world is your favorite you traveled yet?

Rabia Basri: Pakistan, my dear homeland has a rich culture and heritage. Having lovely people around, obedience of parents, Respect for elders, care for younger ones, sympathy for underprivileged ones, We Pakistani have strong faith in all above.

Zill-e-Huma: How do you see the current technological and communication revolution?

Rabia Basri: Current technological and communication revolution must have to be taken in a positive way yet have to handle with care like, It has to be accurate, Must be relevant to basic purposes Complete in respect to the key elements of the problem It has to be Timely (should be communicated in time to be used). It has to be consistent and reliability has to be up-to-date easy to understand. It has to be tailored to the needs of managers and end users.

Zill-e-Huma: What do you say about the positive and negative impacts of the technological and communication revolution?

Rabia Basri: Many advantages like; use of internet to get the latest news of any country on the globe. Services like ‘’Twitter’’ have enabled people to become journalist so they report news on instant by twitting. Services like Wikipedia.org are well equipped with data on about anything.Improved communication, improved social discovery, finding both old and new friends has become very simple. With social networks like facebook and twitter, you can easily stay in touch with all your old friends and can also make new ones. Online education has made  educational material and data accessible anywhere. The use of internet technology has opened educational boundaries, this has benefited students from developing countries have a chance to study relevant courses which increases on their chance of getting high paying international jobs. New methods of education have been created. Use of educational video games and puzzles has increased students interest in learning. Based on research, students enjoy learning with technology, many schools have started providing free internet on school campus, this helps students make research and learn as individuals without getting any help from their teachers. And so many more advantages. Many disadvantages too like, over dependence on information technology makes students less active and innovative. Students no longer take time to solve equation and tasks, all they do is query that task in a search engine and a solution will be provided.Poor publications online. This exposes student’s t wrong information which results into failure of exams. Many online publishers post content for monetary purposes, so you find that most the content published online is not well detailed to help students and researcher. Cyber-sickness, With the increased addiction to social networks and internet games, people are spending more time on computers and give up on their normal offline life.  It has resulted into relation breakups and increases loneliness. Social implications  access to harmful information which corrupts people’s minds and drives them to commit crime. People use search engines to find information on how to create harmful weapons and how to commit wrong acts in society. Internet security issues. For the merchant to process an order online, a consumer has to provide their financial details. Experienced hackers can use this lop hole to channel this information and use it for their own needs. Faulty products and duplication, In most cases auction websites have products that are not real. So a user can bid on a shoe thinking it is original, upon delivery, they discover that the shoe is fake and it does not resemble the picture on auction. Privacy, ecommerce websites collect personal data using cookies to know more about us and suggest products basing on that information. This data is collected without any notice , but with selfish intent. Job Elimination, Technology has replaced most positions which humans used to occupy. Accounting is now being done by software, so accountants run out of opportunities etc.

Zill-e-Huma: Please provide description about your organization?

Rabia Basri: Alhamdullillah I feel myself the blessed one. Being the Co-founder and President of Young Women Writer’s Forum our mission and objectives are to be a supporting one who would provide women writers with resources and tools they need to develop and shine their vision, and enhance their skills and build a network for women writers, artists and social workers by bringing them and their talents, efforts, and intellect together on one platform. Bushra Malik is the Founder of this Forum. In 1994 on the occasion of international women day a group of women under the leadership of Bushra Iqbal from KPK established a women writer’s forum. Initially the name was Sarhad Women Writers Forum and then changed to Pak Women Writers Forum (PWWF). Pakistan woman writers’ forum has established many branches for young woman writers across Pakistan.

Zill-e-Huma: What are the positive of your forum?

Rabia Basri: Positive points of our forum. Respect; is the route to knowledge and a willingness to share. Knowledge makes it possible to avoid repeating mistakes and sharing gives the group access to more and diverse knowledge. Contempt destroys respect. Communication; we need communication to let people know what we need, to pass on ideas and to accomplish tasks. Defensiveness or Nasty Attacks smothers communication. Participation; we need participation to get anything going that will require more than one person’s personal ability. Planning needs to involve people and people need to feel meaningfully involved. Withdrawal or Exclusion kills participation. Creativity; is problem solving power, without it our ancestors would not have survived. Every challenge of the future will need to be handled creatively. Non constructive Criticism suppresses positive creativity. Our forum that embraces the four parts of a positive culture that benefit from the combined positive energies of its members and even from the perpetual winds of change.
